REFLIST UPDATE NOTES
This is version 4.01 of REFLIST. It differs from version 4.00
and previous versions in two ways - it handles WordPerfect 5.1
and it can run in monochrome on strange monitors such as
monochrome VGAs and laptops.
To update from a previous version the files you need to copy are:
1. REFLIST.EXE (The program)
2. REFLIST.DEF (Publishers formats and configuration data.
See below if your old REFLIST.DEF has
formats you wrote.)
3. ALTR.WPM (Only needed if you use WordPerfect 5.1)
The program on this disc is configured for WordPerfect 5.1, which
seems to be the most popular word processor among REFLIST users
these days. If you use some other word processor, then the first
thing to do is to configure the program by picking the 'Options'
choice off the main menu, then picking 'Word processor' off the
pull-down menu. Pick your program and press Enter. The
configuration you choose is saved in the file 'REFLIST.DEF'.
Two example text files are provided to test the program.
EXAMPLE.WP is a WordPerfect file and EXAMPLE.TXT is a generic
ASCII file, made with PC-Write.
If you use WORD PERFECT you must have the macro file ALTR.WPM on
your disc as well - this defines the Alt-R macro for marking
citations in text. Simple put the cursor on the FIRST LETTER of
each citation and press Alt-R. See the manual in REFLIST.DOC for
further details.
To change the video mode, pick 'Video mode' from the 'Options'
menu. You are asked for a new value. A number 0 will allow the
program to adapt itself to any monitor, or number '2' will force
monochrome. Value 7 or 3 might work better on some non-standard
monitors. You have to re-start the program to see the full
effect. The new value is saved in REFLIST.DEF.
IF YOU HAVE WRITTEN YOUR OWN JOURNAL FORMATS for earlier versions of REFLIST,
then read this:
The journal formats in REFLIST.DEF have been changed a little
from v4.00, so as to take account of the new WordPerfect method
of handling underlining and bold face. In REFLIST.DEF an ASCII
value of 1 indicates start of bold face, 2 ends it. ASCII 3
starts underlining and 4 ends it. Each of these characters is
enclosed by ~ marks. The actual code that your word processor
uses is stored near the start of REFLIST.DEF, as you can see.
You can enter the actual code values if you pick 'Other' as your
word processor from the 'Options' menu. If you have written your
own formats you must modify them in this way.
If you are a REFLIST subscriber and have not paid for this update, the cost
is $10.00 Thank you!
